Dr. Ali Ahmed is a visionary leader with more than three decades of experience driving strategic initiatives and delivering cutting-edge solutions across both private and government sectors. Drawing on his Ph.D. in Textile Engineering and having served in leadership roles at DuPont, Twitchell Corporation, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), and the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA), Dr. Ahmed has a proven track record of propelling organizations toward innovation, automation, operational excellence, sustainable growth, and high-performance cultures. With extensive exposure to the business environments of Asia, Europe, and North America, he brings a truly global perspective and deep cultural insights to every endeavor.

With a robust foundation in both the private and government sectors, Dr. Ahmed led business units at DuPont and other Fortune 500 companies, where he honed his expertise in product innovation, automation, regulatory compliance, and quality assurance. Transitioning his career from the private sector to the US Government, at the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, he advanced national product safety standards, ensuring the well-being of millions of consumers through robust testing methodologies and regulatory frameworks. As Technical & Quality Director at DLA Troop Support, Dr. Ahmed oversaw the design, development, and technical functions for DoD military textiles, with an annual budget of $2 billion and led a multidisciplinary team of over 80 professionals at DLA. He championed the US MUST (Military Unique Sustainment Technology) program to enhance manufacturing and logistics for U.S. military clothing, pioneered computer-based shade analysis to reduce fabric defects and costs, and spearheaded the Digital Model Library (DML) using AI for efficient quality monitoring and vendor issue resolution. His leadership extended to interagency collaborations, including representing DLA in a Presidential initiative for establishing the National Manufacturing Institute (NMI) for textiles, and contributing to the selection of Advanced Functional Fabrics of America (AFFOA), thereby reinforcing the U.S. textile manufacturing ecosystem. With more than three decades in federal contracting and defense acquisition, Kevin Peoples is one of the most experienced voices in government textile and apparel procurement. His tenure as Chief Contracting Officer for the DLA Clothing and Textiles Supply Chain gave him direct oversight of complex, high-value contracts across critical categories including CBRN protective systems, specialty clothing, footwear, and other defense-essential programs.

At TAS, Kevin serves as Principal Adviser, bringing that institutional knowledge to help defense contractors navigate the complexities of government acquisition. From shaping winning strategies to ensuring compliance and flawless execution, Kevin’s expertise bridges the gap between industry and government giving TAS clients a decisive edge in the defense marketplace.

Jack Vandenberghe

Biography Overview

Mr. Jack Vandenberghe has served as a Senior Consultant and Technology Director with over 25 years of experience in leading the design, development, and implementation of cutting-edge technology solutions within the textile and apparel supply chain, both domestically and globally. Throughout his career, he has worked in collaboration with U.S. Government laboratories, U.S. Government agencies, academia, and industry manufacturers, suppliers, and distributors, successfully managing cross-functional teams on numerous projects. These projects focused on integrating automated processes, advanced capabilities and digital technologies to optimize critical supply chain operations.

Mr. Vandenberghe’s expertise spans business process re-engineering, resource coordination, and the integration of advanced technology into complex textile and apparel systems. His efforts have consistently delivered measurable results, including cost reductions through improved labor efficiencies, reduced inventory shrinkage, enhanced first-pass quality, streamlined supply chain management, accelerated product delivery systems, strengthened sustainability practices, improved inventory accountability, and shorter life cycle times.

Notably, Mr. Vandenberghe has led projects that advanced color management and communication by leveraging the latest advancements in spectrophotometry and digital measurement technologies. These initiatives improved the accuracy of acceptable requirements and tolerances, as well as enhanced feedback loops throughout the supply chain. He also spearheaded the implementation of automated identification technologies such as Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) systems across apparel supplier, manufacturing, warehouse, distribution, and retail operations. This work significantly boosted automated asset visibility, material handling, distribution, and traceability.

Mr. Vandenberghe holds a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering from Northwestern University and has contributed to various space, missile, and missile defense projects in systems engineering roles prior to working in the textile and apparel industry.

Melanie King

Biography Overview

Melanie King brings over 35 years of distinguished experience in textile manufacturing, color science, and sustainable innovation to her role as Chief Sustainability and Innovation Officer (CSIO) at Textile & Apparel Solutions. A recognized industry leader, Melanie spent two decades at the world-renowned U.S. Army Natick Research Laboratory in Massachusetts, where she led groundbreaking research in color management and textile performance across all military branches.

As the Army’s principal color scientist, Melanie directed the implementation of digital color management systems and played a pivotal role in the design and standardization of camouflage materials currently in use by the U.S. military. Her work involved establishing rigorous standards for colorfastness, spectral reflectance, and achievable shade performance across various fabric constructions and fiber types.

Melanie’s expertise extends into sustainable and functional finishes, including flame retardancy, water repellency, and permanent-press technologies—critical for both military applications and performance apparel. She served as the ISO representative for the Army Lab and has deep knowledge of textile processing, particularly dyeing, printing, and finishing techniques.

Before her tenure with the U.S. Army, Melanie worked at Duro Industries as a Process Engineer and Dye Laboratory Manager, where she developed repeatable, cost-effective dye formulas for large-scale production. Her early career laid the foundation for her lifelong commitment to precision in color and sustainable textile solutions.

At TAS, Melanie leads strategic initiatives in sustainability and innovation, collaborating with leading U.S. and European brands, retailers, and manufacturers. She drives efforts to promote circularity, responsible sourcing, and full digitization of the supply chain—enabling traceability and transparency at every stage of production and distribution.

Melanie holds a degree in Textile Technology from the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth and has been an active member of the American Association of Textile Chemists and Colorists (AATCC).

Biography Overview

Dr. Mohammad Chowdhury, COO for Europe, Middle East & Africa, brings over three decades of textile innovation and global business leadership. After earning a doctoral degree in textile engineering from the University of Manchester in 1992, he began his career with Courtaulds Plc in the UK, honing his expertise in cutting-edge product & process development and business promotions. With solid experience and competence in sustainable textiles & non-woven and a deep understanding of textile fibers and their applications, Dr. Chowdhury held various country, regional and global positions in Bangladesh, UK, Indonesia and Singapore. A significant part of this was with Lenzing Fibers of Austria, the global leader of sustainable fibers like TNCELTM, LENZING™ ECOVERO™ & VEOCEL™

In his role as COO for Europe, Middle East & Africa, Dr. Chowdhury leverages his vast experience in process optimization, product development, and strategic market expansion to steer organizational growth. He excels at integrating best-in-class textile technologies into global supply chains, ensuring efficiency, resilience, and sustainability. In his roles as Executive Director at Akij Group and Akij Textile Mills, he successfully completed 22+ industrial projects, streamlined operations to cut delivery times by 15%, and implemented eco-friendly solutions in 70% of his initiatives. Renowned for driving international certifications (GRS, GOTS, RCS, OCS, OEKO-TEX) and ensuring on-time, on-budget project outcomes, he has shaped end-to-end manufacturing systems that deliver quantifiable benefits in cost efficiency, product quality, and environmental responsibility.
